The Gold Rush

The fashion gold rush has arrived!  Every luxury designer is putting the color gold into their collection’s palette this season to slowly dig into their Chinese luxury consumers hearts.  Gold iPhones and iPads have been out of stock with a waitlist and basically anything that’s flashy and gold is in high demand!  With Chinese New Years around the corner and gold being the auspicious color, there’s not doubt this trend will continue.  Let’s take a look at some 土豪金 (tu hao jin: tasteless gold) luxury products out there!

The Fendi Bugs are Starting to Bug Me

Fendi’s Bag Bugs are selling hotter than hot cakes!  Neiman Marcus is taking preorders and many of the styles are already shown as sold out!  Starting at USD700 a pop, these little charms are selling faster than anything else in the Fendi boutique.

Sure, the little “Buggers” are quite cute and is definitely a statement piece (indicating to the world that not only can you afford a purse the price of a car, the keychain that comes with it cost more than their week’s grocery budget) because no one can miss a big bundle of fur dangling from a purse but is it quite necessary to kill minks and cows to make a keychain? I’m not someone who will frown upon a nice fur coat (at least it keeps you warm) but a keychain made out of mink and calfskin is a itsy bit excessive, even for me.

It appears that these Bugs are evolving into bags and UGG looking boots too!  I haven’t spotted them in the boutiques yet so fingers crossed that they’re only a malicious rumor but riding this wave of popularity is nothing new for luxury fashion brands!
